Endorphins

Inspired by medical devices

Oral Swab

Paper, mixed media, 2016

Endorphins was inspired by a hospital visit. I was visiting a dying grandparent and saw these oral swabs. My previous interaction with them also came from visiting a dying loved one. I had read that endorphins are released during times of pain and times of pleasure. The oral swab became an epiphany to me because the visual appeal of the swabs is that they are flower shaped and soft in texture. Even though they appear cheerful in nature they became synonymous with death.
